Your contracts should read like a story

From the beginning, to the middle, all the way through to the end, your contracts should read like a story.

Your contracts should read like a story

So your contract should all read like a story. You want your beginning, you want your middle, you want your end. In your beginning, you want to say, what is the contract? What are you trying to achieve in this contract? Your middle, you want the juicy bits. So you want to know what are your obligations in there? What are your liabilities? How do you actually know what happens if someone breaches that contract? So all of those juicy bits, all of the interesting part that you want to know to protect yourself in the contract, that goes in the middle. and the end, you want to know how you actually terminate. You want to know what jurisdiction you’re going under. All of these things that happen if something in the middle has been broken.

So three big things that you want to put into your juicy bits in your contract. First of all, you want to protect all of your liabilities. You want to make sure that if something goes wrong, you know exactly what your liabilities are, and your insurance company probably want to know that too. Number two, you want to know that your non-solicitation clause is in there, so your contractors cannot go and work for anyone else without your approval. And finally, number three, most important thing for most people, your payment terms. What happens if you don’t get paid on time? What are your repercussions there? How do you go about protecting yourself? If you need help with all of your legal feel free to contact me.
